One of the famous Safari destinations in East Africa, Samburu National Reserve is located in Northern Kenya and is a premier game reserve situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro river. This vast expanse of remote pristine wilderness measures 165 square kilometers in area and borders the Ewaso Ng’iro River to the south, which separates it from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. Samburu Reserve is a unique wildlife conservation haven famous for an abundance of rare species of animals such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx. The reserve is also home to a population of close to 900 Elephants. Large predators such as the Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are an important attraction (Kamunyak the famous Lioness that adapted a baby Oryx is a resident in the reserve). Samburu is infact one of the better locations in Kenya to spot Leopard. Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area and Birdlife is abundant with over 450 recorded species. Another popular experience is Samburu cultural tour which allows visitors a fascinating insight into the unique way of life of the renowned Samburu people, a pastrolist and warrior tribe found in Kenya and other parts of East Africa. 


Day 1
Depart From Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

After an early breakfast and hotel check out, you will be picked up from your hotel at 7AM and proceed to the Northern part of Kenya with a stop over at Nanyuki the Equator town. You will then continue the trip to the remote areas of the North. The entire trip will take about 6 hours. You will arrive at the lodge for check in followed by a sumptuous lunch. You will later on have an afternoon game drive at the reserve then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2
Samburu National Reserve

You will have an early breakfast then proceed for a morning game drive in the reserve in search of the Northern special 5 which includes the reticulated Giraffes, Gerenuks, Somali Ostrich and Beisa Oryx. The rocky habitat makes it one of the most conducive environment for spotting a Leopard. Elephants are also in plenty along the Ewasonyiro river. And on a lucky day you could also spot a Lion. After the game drive you will return back to the lodge for lunch and enjoy the lodge facilities before you embark on another game drive in the afternoon returning back to the lodge before dusk for dinner and over night.

Day 3
Samburu To Nairobi

You will have breakfast at your leisure then check out from the lodge. Your drive back to Nairobi will have a last minute shopping in Sagana then proceed to Nairobi.

What is the best month to go on an adventure safari?

The best month to go on an African safari will depend on the climate. The seasons are however complex, which will depend on the game viewing experience you have. Peak season is between June and September, where the weather is hot and safari game animals are active across Kenya’s National Parks, including the Wildebeest Migration. However, going between January and March are also months where game viewing is at it’s peak and the weather is conducive.
